Gutter Brooms
All Schwarze sweepers are fitted with dual gutter brooms as standard and in normal sweeping one broom is used.
The sweepers can operate both brooms simultaneously, which in the case of the A6500XL gives an impressive sweeping width of approximately three metres. The brooms can be supplied with various bristle material to suit a range of sweeping conditions.
Both gutter brooms have tilt control in the cab that provides a variety of brush angles to ensure that the brush is working efficiently in all forms of gutters. A simple switch control allows the operator to adjust the broom angle at any time. The one metre diameter gutter brooms are fitted for both left and right hand side sweeping. Constructed of four segments in either disposable wooden heads or reusable hard impact plastic the large diameter brooms allow for larger sweeping distances from the kerb while still delivering swept debris to the sweep head for pick up.
This distance, 650mm reduces damage to the cab chassis from trees, signs and other impediments close to the kerb and lessens the possibility of tyre damage from broken kerb or protruding objects. Both gutter brooms are controlled by low pressure (system back pressure) hydraulics that are over ridden if the broom comes into heavy contact with the gutter or other object.
The trailing arm broom design automatically relieves when the broom is heavily restrained as the pivot point is ahead of the broom so that it merely swings back as required until the load eases. Both brooms have a unique linkage which employs a universal joint which eliminates a number of linkages, pins, levers, etc. This simple design reduces maintenance and damage costs. The main feature is that there is no requirement for a central mounted main broom. Not only is this a substantial saving in initial cost, but it becomes an enormous saving over the operational life of the sweeper.
