Schwarze Sweepers Dominate Contractor Market
Over the last two years the number of sweeping contractors using Australian built Schwarze sweepers has increased dramatically. In Victoria and NSW contractors are either continuing to buy Schwarze or are selecting them over imported Scarab and Johnston machines.
In Melbourne Schwarze sweepers are used exclusively by contractors on City Link, East Link, Vic Roads highways and other main roads. In Sydney the Harbour Tunnel, Lane Cove Tunnel and other motorways are swept with Schwarze by large contractors such as Transfield.
Victorian contractors CityWide ,ISS Facility Services, Streetsahead, Urban Services and Transpacific Industries carry out municipal and roadworks sweeping with Schwarze sweepers and most have new machines on order to go straight to new contracts.
Brisbane’s largest sweeper fleet operator, Cleansweep, has placed another order for sweepers to go to their latest municipal contract to join their Schwarze dominated fleet of 22 sweepers.
Previously the domain of broom/suction sweepers, asphalt, profile and spray and seal contractors are seeing the benefit of Schwarze regenerative air sweeping. Geelong Power Sweep and Blacktop Profiling have proved that you do not need a broom to clean behind milling machines or spray and seal work with their Schwarze sweepers working around the clock. Patches Asphalt in Queanbeyan recently placed an order for a Schwarze A6500XL to work on their wide range of road and asphalt works.
Schwarze Industries National Sales Manager, Malcolm Cameron, said that the strong sales into the cost conscious contractor market was a ringing endorsement of the high performance and low operating costs of Schwarze sweepers. “ Contractors know the exact operating costs of their machines as this affects their hip pocket “ he said. “ Any contractor that tries a Schwarze comes back for more as soon as he sees his cost savings and productivity gains over a wide range of sweeping conditions.
These sales are not easy, in fact they are the most exacting ones as we have to show that we can deliver a good product to hardnosed, financially sharp customers. They are not fixed to a particular brand of sweeper, they just want the best. “

New Sweeper Chassis
Euro IV Compliant, Greater Payload
Mike Webber, Managing Director of Schwarze Industries Australia spoke to Local Govt Focus about the latest version of the popular, Australian built range of Schwarze regenerative air sweepers.
“As the only Australian manufacturer of street sweepers, we are very aware of the need to constantly communicate with our clients regarding their specific needs. In most cases we are able to respond very quickly through our in-house design and manufacturing teams to make changes and specific modifications in order to satisfy those needs.
Mounting a sweeper body onto commercially available cab chassis has always been a compromise as very few chassis have been available with factory fitted automatic transmissions, maximum axle capacities and wheel base configurations to suit sweepers.. This has lead to anomalies such as 11000kg GVM and 15000kg GVM chassis offering almost the same payload.
Schwarze has been working closely with Isuzu Australia for many years regarding the supply of a cab chassis specifically deigned to offer the very best solution for the mounting of street sweeper bodies. Isuzu have come to the party in a very significant way. The all new FSR 700 and FRS 850 chassis are without doubt the closest thing we have seen to the perfect choice for our clients’ applications.
These new chassis have significant axle load and suspension improvements, the wheel base requires no further modification and Allison’s world series 2500 automatic transmission is a standard inclusion. Euro IV emission controls exceed ADR 80 requirements, making this new Isuzu the most environmentally friendly vehicle available.
The in-cab fit out is a substantial improvement incorporating top of the range Isri seating, mirror image duplication of dashboard and instrumentation complete with fully integrated ventilation and air conditioning system. ABS braking adds to safety on the road.
All in all the new offering from Schwarze is a very special piece of equipment offering low operating and maintenance costs and high productivity in a very compact package with probably the best payload configuration available in Australia.”
